...I will leave this on the 12th to proceed to the chil cotin country and establish a trading post at the place you have pointed out...Leather is the only article of which we may be short as I find all my men are in want of shoes, having received no supply before they left Stuarts Lake. I regret much to say, I have not been able to prevail on any Indian of this place to go to the chil cotin country, several promised but afterwards declined going under various reasons, nor has any of that tribe been seen since your last visit to them the only news I have of that quarter is from the atnahs, who report that some salmon went up that River, but in no quantity yet I hope they have been able to secure a sufficient quantity to enable them to remain on their lands...I intend to depend on Bellicque as a guide as I do not wish to take any indians from this place...as we have no dogs It will not be in our power to go about in quest of furs...
