DOUKHOBOR COMMUNITY STARTED NEGOTIATIONS FOR LOAN OF OVER MILLION DOLLARS LAST MAY WITH PORTLAND BOND CO MATTERS WERE PROGRESSING FAVORABLY AND NO DOUBT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN THEIR PAYING OFF ALL DEBTS WHEN MR JUSTICE MORRISON IS REPORTED TO HAVE MADE REMARK FROM BENCH LAST MONTH THAT THE DOUKHOBORS SHOULD BE CRUSHED STOP THIS FOLLOWED BY DEATH OF PETER VEREGIN AND NEWSPAPER REPORTS BOTH HERE AND STATES THAT COMMUNITY IS DISINTEGRATING HAS SERIOUSLY HAMPERED LOAN MOVEMENT STOP THE COMMUNITY BELIEVE THESE CIRCUMSTANCES COUPLED WITH TAX SALE OF THEIR LANDS IS EVIDENCE THAT GOVERNMENT IS UNFRIENDLY TOWARDS THEM STOP REPRESENTATIVE FROM PORTLAND BOND HOUSE ARRIVING HERE TONIGHT STOP SUGGEST SALE LAND BE HELD UP UNTIL I CAN EXPLAIN PERSONALLY IN VICTORIA ON TUESDAY.
