In Montreal there were as gaols but 2 Cells constructed in 1709 and an
old house where the floors, roof and walls were entirely rotted and the bottom
floor had collapsed the previous spring; this Year we were obliged to have
two Chambers built, one for the gaol Keeper and the other for the Civil gaol,
and next year we will have

two other Chambers built that will serve as Civil gaols for the officers
and an audience Chamber, which is much needed. Sieur Chaussegros is putting
forward the plan, and next year we will forward the dimensions and the adjudication.[...]
