J. R. Redpath Dies in B.C.
Lady Roddick’s Brother Was Born in Montreal
John Reginald Redpath, brother of Lady Roddick of Montreal and a Boer War veteran, died on Tuesday at his home in Victoria, B.C., following a brief illness. He was in his 81st year.
Born in Montreal, the son of John James Redpath and Ada Mills Redpath, he was educated here but spent the greater part of his life in Pincher Creek, Alta., where he was a well-known rancher.
He had wide interests and many hobbies, one of which was the Redpath Library at McGill, built by his uncle, Peter Redpath. He was an expert fisherman, an exceptionally good horseman. He took a keen interest in the welfare of Western Indians, who were devoted to him.
His wife, Florence Botterell, whom he married in 1907, died in 1944. He is survived, in addition to his sister, by two sons, James B. Redpath, manager of Sigma Mines, Que., Ltd., Bourlamaque, Que., and Huntly R. Redpath, president of Redpath Realities, Ltd., and seven grandchildren, James, Anne and John of Bourlamaque, and Lawrence Phoebe, Amy Linda and Peter of Montreal.
