James GaudetJames Gaudet (or Gaudie, or Jim), a French-Canadian, was working with Waddington′s road crew as a member of the advance party, situated about two miles ahead of the main camp. William Brewster, Baptiste Demarest, John Clarke, and a Homathco Indian boy known as George were the other members of the advance party that was attacked by six Tsilhqot′in warriors on the morning of April 30, 1864. Gaudet′s body was found shot in the arm and forehead. |
