Judge A.W. Savary
Alfred William Savary (1831-1920) served as a Nova Scotia member of the 1st Canadian Parliament for the Digby riding. He was born in Plympton, Nova Scotia. He would become an editor and lawyer by profession. He was elected under the Anti-Confederation Party banner to the new Canadian Parliament in 1867, but became a Conservative in 1869. He won re-election to the 2nd Canadian Parliament in 1872, but was defeated in the following election in 1874. Following his political career, Savary became a judge in the Digby County Court in 1876 and moved to Annapolis Royal. A passionate amateur historian, he spent all his free time until his death compiling documents and objects from the past, and researching Maritime mysteries. He was one of the key instigators of the conservation and reconstruction project at Fort Anne, Annapolis Royal, now a National Heritage Site.
