APPLICATION FOR A STAY OF EXECUTION IN THE MADAME GAGNON AFFAIR

We met yesterday with the Honourable Justice L. P. Pelletier of the Court of Appeal, who presided at the trial of the Gagnon woman last April. The distinguished magistrate was kind enough to tell us that an application for a stay of execution had been made to him based on a medical certificate issued by the prison doctor, Dr. Gosselin, and in which it is stated that breast-feeding is essential for the lives of the convicted woman's two children.

Given the law sanctioned in July 1920, which transfers jurisdiction in criminal matters to Superior Court judges, the Honourable Justice Pelletier sent the application before a judge of this court.

The Honourable Justice Malouin, to whom the motion was submitted, has ordered that a medical assessment be held.
