[Letter to J.A. MacDonald, Re: Biddulph Murder]

Sir,
[...] There is a section of the township of Biddulph inhabited by the lower order of Roman Catholics where a person's life is not considered of any value. This last murder was among their own order and hence there has not been so much interest taken in the matter as in that of the Brimmacombe murder. The coroner and myself had great difficulty in getting the jury to find even a verdict of manslaughter altho the evidence was ample. I remaind two days longer in the township than I would otherwise have done in hopes of getting the parties arrested. As yet they have escaped arrest. I trust however I shall be enabled to get this case and the Birmmacombe one ready for our Spring Assizes.
