Agreement between François Soumande Delorme and Pierre Labier, 2 February 1735.

  Before the Undersigned royal notary of the Juridiction Royal of montreal, 
    Therein residing, And the Witnesses named at the end of this document, appeared 
    the man named pierre Lubien master Carpenter in This city who Willingly promises 
    to provide Sieur francois delorme Soumande, Bourgeois merchant in this city 
    here present and in agreement, with all the carpentry 
    Wood generally required for the house which the said Sieur de lorme is having 
    built In This city On ruë Capital, for the attic of the said house, and for 
    the ceilings that will 
    be  eight inches in thickness Across the width and that they will be 
    able to [install?]; all 
    of the Joists will be half pine and half hemlock And no other Wood  
    bearers and generally otherwise, And of these joists there will be Five on 
    the upper floor that will cross The stone Wall to be attached to iron Clasps, 
    and [the said Lubien promises] to install all this according to the progress 
    of the masons. All work will be approved by experts and knowledgeable persons, 
    and furthermore [the said Lubien] will make the Arches for the vaults that 
    the Said Sieur delorme intends to have built In the said house as soon as 
    the masons are ready, and for the said Arches Sieur delorme will Only Be required 
    to supply the timber  
    And nails and the structure will be Left to the said Lubien except for the 
    planks needed to cover them And which will be installed by the said 
    lubien;

  this agreement thus concluded according to the Aforementioned Clauses And 
    Conditions And moreover in return for which the said Sieur delorme promises 
    and Commits to give and to pay the said lubien for 
    all of the said work Including all of the Construction Wood used, 
    with the exception of the Timber for the Arches of the said vaults, on the 
    basis and price of three Sols per foot, And for all the timber for the vaults 
    the Sum of One Hundred forty livres, all of it payable half In merchandise 
     And four 
    bottles of Eau de Vie[ And the other half with thirty bushels of good 
    wheat And the Remainder In currency of legal tender in this country, and to 
    provide this payment as the work progresses; and under penalty of all damages 
    and interest  
    against the Faulty party to [illegible word] all or part of the said clauses. 
    As such each has agreed[illegible word] & promises & recognizes his 
    obligations & done & passed in Montreal in the study of the said notary 
    after midday on the second Day of February seventeen Hundred thirty-Five in 
    the presence of Sieurs pierre Coreau la Coste merchant And godin called as 
    witnesses who, with my said Sieur delorme And notary Signed And 
    the said lubien declared to not Know how to Write or Sign as asked 
    following the reading done according to the Ordinance.
