[...] After that [leaving Helluland] they sailed with a northerly wind for two days, and again sighted land, with large forests and many animals. An island lay to the south-east, off the coast, where they discovered a bear, and they called it Bjarney (Bear Island), and the forested land itself Markland. [...]

[...] They had southerly winds [from Straumfjord – Hauk’s Book says “from Vinland”] and reached Markland, where they met five natives. One was bearded, two were women and two of them children.[...]
