This site includes some documents you might be surprised to find, such as telegrams, bills, and lists. Such documents are sometimes referred to as ‘ephemera’. Most of the documents on this site were created to convey simple, factual information of immediate interest. It was not likely expected these would be kept for long periods of time. These documents allow us to more easily construct timelines of events, and glean insights ranging from prices for services and goods, standards for communicating information, and what sort of things were deemed important to communicate to others.
The inscriptions on cemetery markers, such as the headstones marking graves or the Thomson memorial cairn at Canoe Lake, have also been grouped within this category.
