NATIONAL GALLERY OF CANADA
OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR
OTTAWA

Dear Dr. MacCallum:

The Trustees of the National Gallery of Canada beg to inform you that they desire to purchase the following pictures and sketches by the late Tom Thomson: “The Jack Pine” Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($750.00), “Autumn’s Garland” Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($750.00, twenty-five (25) oil sketches previously chosen and set aside, Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) each, total Two Thousand One Hundred and Twenty-five Dollars ($2,125.00).

In view of the fact that owing to the war the National Gallery of Canada has no funds available for the purchase of works of art, the Trustees agree to pay for the pictures and sketches as early as possible during the fiscal year of 1919-20 provided the Government makes appropriation for the purchase of works of art, and failing any appropriation for 1919-20 that they will be paid as soon as such appropriation be made for this purpose.

Yours faithfully,
B. E. Brown
Chairman

Eric Brown
Director.
