Letter from Jane C. Cooper to Amy Redpath, 17 June 1901

June 17 – 1901
Dear Amy,
[…]The last time you gave me tea at your house, I remember our conversation: how your talked of your brothers – how good they were, and you said you wished I knew Clifford better. Dear heart, I was by no means blind to his beautiful character. How could I be, when I had seen his unusual devotion to your invalid mother and to yourself. For years I have been full of reverence & admiration for him, knowing how brave & self-controlled he was. And Amy dear, the marvel to me is that he did not collapse long, long ago – for however noble the air in life, the divine spirit in [illegible] air is but set in the fragile frame of humanity, with its physical limits[…]
Ever yours lovingly
Jane C Cooper
