"Arrival of the Brother Jonathan"

The British Colonist March 13, 1862

The town was taken completely by surprise yesterday afternoon on the arrival of the steamship Brother Jonathan from San Francisco, with dates to the 8th inst. The steamer came direct and brought 350 passengers; about 125 of the number will remain at Victoria, the remainder are bound for Salmon River. The freight consists of 60 tons of merchandise and 21 mules. She will leave for San Francisco, by way of Portland, at 4 o'clock this afternoon.
