JAM TICKET OF LEAVE UNDER THE ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE CONDITIONAL LIBERATION OF PENITENTIARY CONVICTS. His Excellency the Governor General is pleased to grant MARIE-ANNE HOUDE or GAGNON (booking number H-600), who was found guilty of murder in Quebec City, P. Q., by the Honourable Justice Pelletier on April 21, 1920, and was then and there sentenced to be hanged, the said sentence having been commuted to imprisonment for life at the penitentiary in St. Vincent de Paul, P. Q., by order of council, dated September 29, 1920, and who is currently confined in the penitentiary in Kingston, Ont., licence to be at large in Canada, from the date of her liberation under this order during the remaining portion of her term of imprisonment, unless the said MARIE-ANNE HOUDE or GAGNON shall before the expiration of the said term be convicted of an indictable offence within Canada or shall be summarily convicted of an offence involving forfeiture, in which case the licence thus granted will be immediately forfeited by law, or unless this licence is revoked or altered sooner. This licence is granted according to the conditions prescribed on the reverse side, upon the breach of any of which it will be liable to be revoked, whether such breach is followed by a conviction or not, or unless it pleases the Governor General to alter or revoke it for whatever cause. If, however, this licence has been neither modified, nor revoked, nor confiscated, and is not subject to confiscation for any cause whatsoever, the day the above mentioned sentence expires, if it was reduced by remission earned at the time of the inmate's liberation, which date the warden or the officer in charge of the prison shall specify in the margin of this licence, then the said sentence will be deemed served and this licence will have no further effect. His Excellency hereby orders that the said MARIE-ANNE HOUDE or GAGNON be set at liberty within thirty days from the date of this order. IN ORDER TO FACILITATE THE NECESSARY CARE AND TREATMENT REQUIRED BY HER STATE OF HEALTH, ALL ARRANGEMENTS TO THIS EFFECT SHALL BE LEFT TO THE DISCRETION OF THE WARDEN OF THE PENITENTIARY. Given under my hand and seal this third day of July, 1935, in Ottawa. E. H. COLEMAN Source: ANC, , RG 13, Box 1507, File Houde Marie-Anne, vol. 1, part. 1, E. H.
