QUEBEC, 30th Sept. 1920 Thomas Mulwey, Esq. Under Secretary of State, Ottawa. Dear Sir, I have duly received your telegram of the 29th inst., informing me that the death sentence passed upon Marie-Anne Houde, or Gagnon, was commuted into life imprisonment. I suppose the only logical thing to do now would be to amend the statute in order to exempt women from the death penalty. Yours truly, Source: ANC, , RG 13, Box 1507, File Houde Marie-Anne, vol. 1, part. 1, Louis P. Pelletier, Opinion of Louis P. Pelletier Following the Commutation, September 30, 1920, 1.
