Deposition of Robert Donnelly, February 1880
ROBERT DONNELLY. — I am a son of the late James Donnelly; I was not at home the night of the murder: I was at St. Thomas; I first heard of the murder on Wednesday; I came home about two o’clock on Friday morning; [...] I went to my father’s place on Saturday; [...] I found a stick there accidently on the 12th or 13th inst.; the stick produced is the one; I found it in a field about ten rods from the house, north of the house in the direction of the school house; that would be in the direction of my brother William’s place; [...] I saw it on the ground and I picked it up and looked at it and I saw what I supposed to be blood on it; [...]
