Meredith, William Ralph
Born in 1840 in Upper Canada, William Ralph Meredith was seen as “the leader of the London Bar.” A strong Conservative, he served as a politician under the leadership of Matthew Crooks Cameron. Some saw Meredith as a “severe” lawyer. A strong supporter of the Church of England, Meredith nonetheless championed himself as defender of Irish Catholics when he served as lawyer for the defence in the two trials of James Carroll for the murder of the Donnellys. Meredith died in 1923.
