My Dear Sir,

Queen vs Carroll et al

[...]From what I hear I feel convinced that the real cause we failed in obtaining a conviction was the sympathy for the prisoners felt throughout the county, & the opportunity which Judge Cameron’s charge gave the jury to make their verdict accord with their feelings in favor of Carroll. No one doubts his guilt, & yet he is quite a hero.
