Today, Friday the thirteen [Sixteen] April the Year Seventeen Hundred thirty-four,
nine In the morning, Appeared at the Registry of the Juridiction Royale of
Montreal Before the undersigned Clerk of the said Jurisdiction, Sieur Estienne
volant dit Radisson, Who stated, declared And Affirmed to us that on the ten
of April last, Day of the Fire, His house Being next to The one in which the
Fire Began, He Had No time to salvage numerous documents And Notes Regarding
The affairs of the

India company; that he cannot Say with Precision what Was Burned And lost,
Not having Yet found Lodging in order to Conduct a verification, [which] he
will do Promptly And Will then come back to make His Declaration of What Was
Lost; Otherwise Declares that The papers Regarding The man named desorcy,
inhabitant from Sorel, with respect to land he had acquired from the Late
fauteu and his wife, and which the said Desorcy had Given to him for safekeeping,
Were Burned; he requested a copy of the present Declaration to assist him
if Needed, signed on the said Day and hour.
