that on the eve of the escape of the said negress with the Said thibault that Occurred on a Saturday, the said negress And the Said thibault having Retired Early at the Said Sieur Moniere, She who is Deposing, having worked late into the night for all that She had to do, In Retiring to Her Bedchamber passing through the Room where Slept the Said Negress By The stove, She saw that the fire Was set in Her Blanket; She who is Deposing, Pour a water jug on it, And Drew Away the Said Negress, Who told her to Say Nothing about it. That half an hour ou three quarters of an Hour later, the Said Sieur Moniere Having been awakened by the smoke, made the rounds of the Entire house, And She who is deposing, in order to Avoid the said Sieur Moniere being irate Against the Said Negress, told him nothing Of It. She stated it only immediately in Secrecy to demoiselle moniere. That on the Sunday

in the morning, with what she told the other Domestics of the house of them Having Risked Being Burned there, Those who had slept Down Below with the Said thibault Stated that the fire had erupted there also; that the Sleeve of Jacques [Jacques Jalleteau] had Burned with that of His vest and a Corner of the Blanket; And that on the same Sunday in the Evening, the Said negress and the Said Thibault Left; and were captured And Returned at the End of fifteen Days.
